Do Awards recognise, reward and motivate original creative thinking?

Yes. Come awards season and the oft-debated issue raises its head again. How important are awards anyway? So what's acting without the ambition and the recognition of The Oscars. What's writing without the motivation and the recognition of The Booker or The Pulitzer. What's scientific research without the reward and respect of that coveted Nobel. Or for that matter the Grammy's.

Creativity thrives on recognition more than anything else. Awards are, therefore, important to recognise, reward and motivate original creative thinking. I believe that creativity is also a marketing tool. Businesses and brands thrive, Industries prosper and all because great creativity inspires.

Work which inspires, that pushes the boundaries is recalled more, and the longer it stays the better the chances of being effective. The equation is great creative work is more effective which means since it delivers better results, is cheaper! Awards is our barometer which helps our profession to better understand the work we do, against our peers and helps inspire an upward spiral in the future.

You don't start by wanting to win an award. You start the journey with the ambition for an idea that solves a marketing problem in the most effective way. In the process if you come up with an idea that's original and world beating, the rewards in the marketplace and the awards from our industry follow. Awards are never the destination. Awards are celebratory milestones in the journey of every big idea.

Awards are the annual benchmark for the industry because we are in the business of ideas, of creativity. It's important to raise the benchmark every year for creativity, and how will we do it if we don't put them up against each other.

The excitement, the entertainment and adrenalin rush of winning pushes our fraternity to raise the bar. That excitement and recognition is the turbine that makes our profession celebrated, attracts talent who keeps our profession pulsating and attractive. It's been said that no two days are the same in advertising. And unlike other professions, an individual’s conviction and belief make ideas come alive, build strong brands by adding values, and that recognition is the rewards system which we call an award.

Agencies thrive. Individuals get attention and recognition. Clients are happy. So, why not?

So Guyz...What do you feel...Do Awards really motivate original thinking or they are just part of the journey? Just Express...

EGO: The Worst Fuel For Anger

What is anger actually? Most commonly answered as a very strong emotion arising from frustrations, unfulfilled desires, goes on, but the actual reason, the root of it all has not been grasped.

Ask yourself these things- Why do I get angry in the first place? And why can I not let go of issues? Why the hanging on to the old? The answer is quite simple and a rude shock. It is because of a trait within us that lies so subtly, but yet disrupts so many things in our lives. It is the very small word that has the most powerful governing aspect and it is called the EGO- a trait that will always live with us and just as the Gita has so described, the ego as the fuel for the fire of anger that has the quality to destroy the mind.

So how does one control it and why should one want to control this emotion? As to why, well surely everyone would want to live a harmonious life with peace in and around instead of chaos and confusion and as to the part of controlling it, will that is where a lot of work needs to be put in, as to calm down a raging fire is the toughest part. So one has to begin with the root cause and that is the ego. Ego in every which way means to be self centered, self absorbed, feel more superior, self important and the list can go on. But the common word used here is the ‘self’ and “It’s all about ME and WHAT IS MINE”. For instance, you have a general conversation and suddenly what is said does not fit your opinion, an argument begins and then anger and finally it is death of a lovely friendship. So where did it erupt from- ego. Ego is all about ‘me and mine’ and everything should go the way ‘want it’, and because everyone wants the world and everything in it at its beck and call, the dominant emotion of society today is anger.

Everyone is angry because of the mad rush to reach somewhere or achieve something what the other has not. The fire of anger cannot be controlled so easily. A lot of acceptance has to be developed first. Acceptance of the way things are, people are, situations are. They are there not for you to change them, but to learn from them and move on. A lot of love has to be developed to vanquish that fire that foregoes the past and can create happiness again, and if not the path of love then try looking at your face in the mirror after an argument, it will shock you. Anger changes the most beautiful face into something quite to the contrary and last but not forgotten, is the wonderful laughing therapy. Laugh away all the upsets and spread some pleasant moments with one and all so that you are remembered as the lovable one and not the angry egoist.

WE THE PEOPLE OF INDIA

A very Happy Independence Day 2 all my blogger frnds.

Dis blog is abt us. We The People of INDIA.
Today v r celebrating INDIA's 63rd Independence Day n v all r proud 2 b Indians bt r v d pride of INDIA?

Our country hs got evrything from resources 2 talented manpower bt v r still called a THIRD WORLD COUNTRY by dese so called First world nations. Dere has 2 b a reason 4 dis. I know what u r thinking at dis pt of time.

U wud put all d blame on d govt. Its d govt who is corrupt, doesnt pay any attention 2wards building infrastructure n its officials to whom we have 2 pay bribe sometimes 4 no reason.

But i dont agree 2 dis. Let us put it dis way. First of all, d govt is elected by us so its we d people of India who r responsible 4 its failture.
Secondly, the bribe is paid by us to dese govt officials. So v hv encouraged them 2 become corrupt. V r responsible 4 all dese problems. So v hv to change ourselves n our rigid attitudes.

"BE THE CHANGE U WANT TO SEE"

FAKE CURRENCY NOTES

Hi to all my blogger frnds !!!!!!!!!

This blog is abt a major economic prob dat our country is facing i.e. FAKE CURRENCY NOTES.
According to recent reports, dis prob is in a grave state, as it can destabilize our economy. And it is impossible for a common man 2 differentiate b/w a real n a fake currency notes coz of their similarity by up to 95%. Even trusted sources like bank ATM's r yielding fake notes n d bank refuses 2 change dem.
I noticed dis prob when 1 of my relative noticed a fake note in his pocket n he didn't knew abt d source 4m where it had come? Now he was in a fix what to do wid dis note?
Fortunately he has a frnd who works in a reputed bank n had knowledge abt such prob. He deposited d note with RBI but i dont think my relative got anything in return.
So my ques is
"WHAT SHUD A COMMON PERSON DO WID A FAKE CURRENCY NOTE?"
"SHUD HE KEEP CIRCULATING DAT NOTE IN D ECONOMY?"
OR
"SHUD HE SUFFER A MONETARY LOSS OF HIS HARD EARNED MONEY 2 PROTECT HIS ECONOMY??????????"

"Just for Ladies" Really?

Hi to all my bloggers!!

I will start with a small incidence that i was unluckily lucky enough to go through. I was travelling by metro to Ramakrishna Ashram Marg with my uncle. My uncle was sitting while I was standing tall enjoying the view of people commuting by metro. As usual, at kashmiri gate it got pretty crowded up. A lady in her mid 20's (I guess) listening FM, entered the metro. She came and somewhat stood in middle of nowhere. My uncle asked him that "mam aapke piche Ladies seat (Where i guess 2 men were seating) hai aap wahan baith jaiye". The lady said that "Nahin thik Hai".

Like wise many times in a bus I (I can comfortabely say We) have seen that some idiots are sitting on Ladies Seat, while the young girls and ladies are standing. So my question to all girls (boys if they too have the answer) " Why don't girls use this particular right when it's provided to them?"

I have learned few answers throughout my college life like; "Thik hai, koi problem nahin hai, khade hain yaar", “I am comfortable". Unluckily, we have the pleasure of hearing these lines from young educated girls and ladies. Aunties still ask for the seats. For all the younger lot who generally say the above lines, please answer this “If you are a millionaire; and get lucky to win a lottery, say for 1 million!! Would you deny it saying I am already a millionaire??"

What I wanna say is that u might me comfortable with standing and not using your right; but than you need to make an impact for all those who are not comfortable and neither have the audacity to say "Bhaiya Ladies seat hai". I know there are idiots who are sitting on ladies seat, but if you let them sit, aren't you a biggere one?? Just Express!!

Ethics or Growth... which one would you choose?

I will start this blog with a small story.......

"Few months back, two businessmen (Starting same Business) imported Plant and machinery for starting their business entErprise. For getting a hold on to machinery, they needed to go through the whole import process paying duties etc... Now the custom authority started asking for "BRIBE aka Paisa" for clearing the machine of the Port in an easy and quick way. If the BRIBE was not given, the owner had to wait for months until he got the clearance (Given this clearnace would also have included different hurdles).

Now, one entrepreneur decided that he would follow business ethics and hence would not give any bribe and therefore would wait few months before he gets the clearance. While the other entrepreneur gave the Bribe and got the possesion of machinery. He started his business early and automatically got advantage over the entrepreneur who resorted towards the way of ethics."

Likewise this situation, many times in life we stand in midway of Growth and Ethics.
So, i would like to raise the question that "Can Growth and Ethics go hand in Hand?"
What Say? Just Express!!:-)
